Foundational Numeracy
Foundational Numeracy means the ability to reason and to required easy numerical concepts in daily life issue solving. The great aspects and components of yearly
mathematics are:
- Pre-digit concepts : Count and understand the digit complex
- digit and operations on digit : Learn accord demand for mastery of Mathematical techniques such as the use of a base ten complex to represent digit
- Shapes and Spatial Understanding : Perform easy computations in her/his own way up to three-digit digit and required these to their day to life activities in distant contexts
- Measurement : Understand and use standard algorithms to perform operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on digit up to three digits
- Data Handling : Identify and extend easy patterns starting from repeating shapes to patterns in digit , interpret simple data/details in his/her daily life activities;
Outcomes
Following outcomes have been envisaged from implementation of the goals and objectives of NIPUN Bharat Mission:
- Foundational prowess enable to keep kinds in class thereby reducing the dropouts and better transition rate from primary to upper primary and secondary stages.
- Activity based learning and conducive learning climate will be better quality of education.
- Innovative pedagogies such as toy-based and experiential learning will be used in classroom affair thereby making learning a joyful and engaging activity.
- Intensive capacity building of educator will be make them empowered and supply greater autonomy for select the pedagogy.
- Holistic growth of the kinds by focusing on distant domains of growth like physical and motor growth , socio-emotional development, literacy and numeracy growth , cognitive growth , life prowess etc. and that are interrelated and interdependent, and that will be reflected in a Holistic Progress Card.

Key Points
Roles and Responsibilities of NSC:
- To oversee the progress of the National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy and supply guidance on policy issues
- To arrive at the target to be achieved nationally in 2026-27.
- To disseminate tools for measurement of yearly progress in the form of guidelines.
- To prepare and approve a National Action Plan (based on the State’s Action Plans).
- To review programmatic and economic norms periodically to ensure they are synchronised with targets to be achieved.
NIPUN Bharat Mission:
Objective:
- To create an enabling climate to ensure universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, so that every kinds achieves the desired learning competencies in reading, writing and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.
- Focus Areas:
- It will be focus on supply access and retaining children in foundational years of schooling; teacher capacity building; growth of high quality and diversified Student and Teacher Resources/Learning Materials; and tracking the progress of each kinds in achieving learning outcomes.
Implementation:
NIPUN Bharat will be appliance by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.
A five-tier appliance mechanism will be set up at the National- State- District- Block- School level in all States and UTs, below the aegis of the centrally sponsored projects of Samagra Shiksha.
‘Samagra Shiksha’ programme was begin subsuming three existing projects : Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education (TE).
The aim of the projects is to treat school education holistically, from pre-school to Class XII.

A special package for Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) under NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads and educator Holistic Advancement) is being growth by NCERT.
NISHTHA is a capacity building programme for "better Quality of School teaching between Integrated Teacher Training".
Stage-wise targets are being set in a continuum from the pre-primary or balvatika classes.
